We have the ability to create (or curate) the world we live in, from the inside out. A world where magic exists, where beauty prevails, where joy can light our hearts.
At times, this can be tough mantra to maintain. At 17 years old my symptoms had manifested into a chronic inflammatory response. After eating, tears would fall down my face as I suffered from severe stomach pain, digestive issues, sleeplessness, low immune system and foggy thinking. I was confused and scared.
I went to the doctor because I was in pain, rapidly losing weight and sleeping 18 hours a day. After tests, I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy, endometriosis and extreme case of hypothyroidism. I had never heard anyone talk about a wheat allergy or even gluten-intolerance! I had never seen gluten-free on a package. My doctor had no knowledge of it. Yet, finding out I was a celiac was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Four years ago my husband and I welcomed twins into the world, one of the happiest days of my life. After months of little sleep and the stress of caring for two infants, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and adrenal exhaustion.
Hashimoto’s disease is a condition in which your immune system attacks your thyroid, a small gland at the base of your neck. The thyroid gland is part of your endocrine system, which produces hormones that coordinate many of your body’s activities. Thyroid hormones are extremely important and have diverse actions. They act on virtually every cell in the body! Since the thyroid and adrenals are intimately connected, I am also treating the adrenal exhaustion.
My world changed as I slowly vowed to live a clean lifestyle. Healing is a process that includes a proper protocol of diet, rest, exercise and stress management. There are many different types of stress, so it is important that we look at adrenal function, thyroid function, hormone balance and remove triggers such as toxins, food sensitivities and allergies while coaching up proper digestion, detoxification and function within the body.
With years of personal experience and research behind me, I am thrilled to be a Certified Functional Nutritionist FDN-P through Functional Diagnostic Nutrition®.
My goal is simple: to share my experience. I have hope, daily I am able to dance, sing, love, dream, and play like a child (an important aspect of healing). Although I still struggle, I feel blessed; I have reclaimed the light.
